TEAM MEETING!!!

Hey Minerva,

Team meeting this Thursday night straight after Latino dance.  Everyone to attend …we seriously need to discuss our plan of attack for the next two months.  With the bonus points (10 per person)  given for Latino dance class last week and only 5 team members attending, we are now at least 40 points behind L  Most teams  had a full turn out!

Full team attendance at Latino dance this week would be brilliant, great team building, we can have a good laugh at each other and ourselves!!! Then we can go straight to the Villager (Remuera Road) afterwards.  We will aim to be at the Villager for 8.15pm so if you can’t make Latino (lets hope that’s not many) we will see you up there then.  Some team members still haven’t met each other, so great opportunity to get some team unity!

See you at Pilates tonight 6pm and Latino tomorrow night (that will be two classes ticked off the list for the month already!)

last chance for group fitness points

Whats Up people!!??!!

As we near the end of our first calendar month, the oppurtunity to get max points for your team are getting slim!!

Wednesday 30th June is last day of the month so last chance saloon for group fitness points.

Remember its 8 DIFFERENT classes for 10 points, and for 5 points you only need 4 different classes, so you can even get that done in the next 2 days if your committed!!

Watch this space for “re:flex” pump classes coming soon on Mondays and Wednesday evenings @ 6.30pm…

I have 5 spots for the Demo class tomorrow night at 6.30 so first in first served send me an email on justinw@genesisfitness.co.nz to get a limited spot for the test class tomorrow night

We had a hilarious night at latino last week and I think we all had fun and we all had a crack up watching each other do the ‘swivel’.

Try and remember the moves and we will get it together for a team dance off later in the competition

We are now 5 weeks in folks,  and I am more than pleased as to how its going and you can all give yourselves a pat on the back. Its tough going, but the team trainings and commraderie is something to be admired,  and remember you point whores out there… its all about fun so

No bonus poitnts this week but high 5’s to those doing tough guy tough girl this weekend… represent Genesis with plenty of gusto and mudslinging competitiveness!!!

Keep up the blogging and remember if your PT isnt doing the business… give them a flogging

Points Rush

Yep lost a bit of water last night , Don’t worry Margret I will wash my shirt before Latino other wise I would probably have a rather large gap around me.

Cant make any thing tonight as I’ve got tennis but will be there Thursday. Working towards a plan to  knock off eight different classes before end of month hopefully.

Wet T shirt contests are normally Judged on the other criteria which I fear would drop me well down the order.

Boxing and Spray Oil

Agree with the two previous speakers! ;) Great night at boxing, highly recommended and for those who are worried about the pace etc. You can go at it at your own pace, shot to Margaret who did a great job in smashing the bag as well as my sparring partner "the other" Pete who was punching the crap out of both me and the bag :)

Since I have been suggesting a few food tips etc. so far I thought I would continue, I am not sure everyone has tried it but I would strongly recommend buying the "Spray" oil instead of the stuff in flasks, it is way better when using in a pan, on salad or anything else, the Bertolli green can of olive oil and the Alfa One Rice Bran oil are the ones I use, I know it feels slightly weird spraying oil out of a can but it really does make more sense when you see how evenly and thin you can use it and still get the same results!

I am doing another class tonight, still have to decide what though!

Hi Team Minerva

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone is doing well with the challenge so far!  I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the spin class last night, I didn't do my usual hours at work but did make it to the gym earlier on.  I have the day off work today so I did the MC2 class this morning, what a great workout!  I would definitely recommend it for an intense half hour!  I will most definitely be at the Latino dance class on Thursday, it was good fun the first time even though I lack any coordination!

Thanks Peter for getting the information about snacks, they all sound yum but I will have to watch my portion sizes.

I checked today and we have to do eight different classes before the end of June to get 10 points or four different classes to get 5 points.  Also if anyone was wondering the gym sessions per week run from Tuesday until the following Tuesday.

See you all Thursday!

Abby :)

PS I'm still struggling to come up with Warren's food item!

The New Busy is not the old busy. Search, chat and e-mail from your inbox. Get started.

Lock in Latino Thursday!!!

Hey Guys,

This week we have some massive bonus points up for grabs!

Your task,  should you be able to get a baby sitter or get the hubby to cook will be making it to the Latino Dance Class!

The class is this Thursday 24th June at 7pm!

Yes, I know some of you may get a little embarrassed at the thought of have to dance around in front of other apparent coordinated people, but there are 10 POINTS up for grab for each team member that attends! So if you can get your whole team there, that’s 100 POINTS right there!

Here are the rules:

-          Your name must be down on the Latino Class sign in sheet

-          You must attend the whole session. NO LEAVING EARLY!

-          You cannot be anymore than 10mins late.

-          Please participate with enthusiasm. You cannot just stand there lifting your arms up and down! Shake what your mama gave you!!!

-          10 points per team member that participates

No one is too uncoordinated to do this class. It’s for all fitness and skill levels.

It’s a great work out but it’s also loads of fun!

Down the line there will be a Latino Dance Challenge between teams so this is a good chance to practice your dance moves. You made need them later!

Latino Dance Thursday 24th June @ 7pm

Snacks!

Hi guys since many of you were requesting suggestions for snacks I decided to ask our nutritionist this is her response, I think this might help us all!

"Snacks should be no larger than the palm of your hand otherwise it is a meal not a snack firstly.  You can use such things as:

·         Veggies and hummus dip

·         Fruit and yogurt (natural unsweetened of course)

·         Nuts and seeds

·         Small piece of low GI fruit (grapes/mandarins/feijoa etc) and almonds

·         Nut bars (as plain as you can find them) – not muesli bars as these are high in carbs

·         Protein shake

·         Rice crackers with pesto / hummus / feta / avocado.... but only if your body fat % is lower than 33% for girls and 24% for guys – otherwise too much starch to break down.

·         Celery and cheese

Be careful that snacks are not increasing your overall daily amount of calorie and food intake, as if you are wanting to drop body fat you need to keep this low.  Reduce the size of your three meals and take some of that to allocate to your snacks in between, this way you are increasing your metabolism without increasing total calorie and far more likely to burn fat.

Only have snacks though if you are hungry or blood sugars are shaky.

Good luck and I hope this helps"

Minerva We Need Some Points!

Hi Guys

It’s been awesome to meet new faces at the gym.  My focus this year has been attending Bootcamps every Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s in which if you want rapid results this will certainly do it for you.  Nothing like meeting people with the same goals as you and having a laugh at the same time.  One thing I have noticed with Bootcamp is that it creates competition and with that it brings out the best in every individual in which brings results.  The idea of the Evolution Challenge is to create the same ethos within the gym environment.

I have made it my personal challenge to complete all group fitness classes which included ‘Latino Dancing’ in which I got a ribbing from my bootcamp mates.  I can say it is highly recommended and a load of laughs and will do it again.  Becs has already introduced me to most of the team and it was great to see Peter down at yoga with me last night.  Abby, Margaret and Warren showing us how it’s done in the gym, great effort guys.

New week is the start of week four and it would be awesome to have EVERY TEAM MEMBER at Spin Class with me on Monday at 6.00pm.  This would be a great start to the week and would lay the platform for us to complete other group fitness classes and accumulate serious points!  In which will keep Becs happy.

That’s it for me this week, stay motivated and join with me in some group fitness classes.

Cheers,

Dave A

Hi everyone,

I'm sneakily doing this from work so hopefully don't get caught - but we definitly need the bonus points!

Hopefully you've all had a good week.  I had another session with Rebecca last night and am very jealous of her trip to Fiji today.  I'm hoping to get in some yoga, boxing (eek!), MC2, and a spin class before the end of the month but not sure which of the others I'll do to make it up to eight (already done pilates and latino) - Rebecca suggested the running class on Monday night but not sure how well that will go...I guess I can only try!!

Peter, I struggle a little with snacks as well, at the moment I'm just snacking on mixed nuts (although very tempting to just keep on munching) and fruit during the day.  Have also had some rice crackers with a little cheese or hummus (not sure whether that is a brilliant snack to be eating regularly though...yum though!).  I can see myself getting tired of these though so if anyone else has some great ideas please share!

Right well I better head to they gym now (would never have happened on a Friday night before this challenge!)...maybe see some of you tonight or over the weekend.

Abby

PS The 1st of July is good for me :)

The New Busy is not the too busy. Combine all your e-mail accounts with Hotmail. Get busy.

TGIF

All ths gyming has worked up a thirst  but now I feel guilty and dont want to undo the hard work - oh no lo cal beer maybe

I will give a clue to my food like - you can buy it here in Auckland.

The 1st July sounds an excellent night for a catch up.

Ist of July ok for me at present to meet at villager

Big Time Blogger

So Here I am

Got to  say I’m enjoying some of the different classes I probably would have not normally made  I.e.  Pilates , Yoga and Dancing to  come , looking forward to  that. ( Yer right )

With this new found exercise spurt  I’m struggling between main meal times with what to  snack on when you get that I’m hungry feeling.

Attended the nutrition night and whilst it was interesting I didn’t actually get a lot of ideas on what one should eat other than a couple of eggs a day are ok.

Any ideas out there on snack food. ( Trying to  loose a bit of weight as well)

Looking to crash the boards over the next couple of weeks as school Holidays etc are going to  take a week out of the program.

At least if we can all catch up in the coming weeks I’m sure Rebecca will have her Holiday photos to  show us.

Keep the points coming

Morning or Afternooners?

Hi guys was wondering how many of you go for the morning sessions and how many go in the afternoon!

I am usually around at 7am in the morning and from next week I will be doing boxing and pilates too (hopefully). This is pretty much because I dont have as easy of a time getting motivated in the afternoon, I really struggle, seems like there is always something more fun that going to the gym available once work is done :)

By this afternoon I will have gone 5 times this week plus pilates and hoping to keep that up for the next two and a bit month we still have left. Hopefully that will keep our point up a bit.

Still thinking about what Warrens food secret might be... Do we get a clue of sorts?

Good Morning,

Just to start the ball rolling lets hope we can all get a blog in today for some extra bonus points.

Nice to see that Bec's has left the drizzly rain for us as she swan's off to Fiji (OK I'm just jealous)

Having meet a lot of the team now I have to say it is great knowing a few more people around the Gym each time I go.

Have a great day and weekend

Bonus points up for grabs!!!

Morning to you Evo Die hards out there!!!

Just a small wee update about the 12 week challenge, getting some rules all sorted and general feedback

The first few weeks seemed to be the seeding of some very strong teams at the moment. Every team has there own little style, a celebrity appearance of the god zeus, some very intense workouts from Septu, and group Pilates for Minerva. Points have been dished out fairly and I have done it like this

· All attendance recorded by all members is recorded in our membership software and is transported to a spreadsheet and checked by myself

· All attendance times are observed to counteract the ‘double beepers’ trying to score an extra visit

· If you come in and go to a class it is recorded as a gym session AND a group fitness session

· You must do 8 DIFFERENT classes in a calendar month (1st June – 31st June for first month allotments) to get maximum points.

· I will tally group fitness at the end of the month as it gives everyone till the doors close on the 31st to gain points

Any more questions you can always flick a quick email to justinw@genesisfitness.co.nz and ill blurt more details

BONUS POINTS

If you blog on your team site Friday 18th between the hours of 7am and 9 pm you will get 3 bonus points per team member blog.

It can be about anything you decide as long as you post it on your team and put your name at the bottom ( remember no footers)

If everyone in your team has put in a blog and I check it on the team manifest, I will issue a bonus 10 points for getting EVERY team member to blog.

It’s a team event so rally your troops and don’t take no for an answer. How hard is an email. And before you think of posting muliple blogs for all your team I can check email addresses so try not be too sneaky, the watchful eye is ever present.

Let your fingers do the talking

JUDDY

p.s heads up for bonus points next week will involve the Latino class so get a late pass from the partner and get ready to get your crump on!!!

Nutritionists comment about the suggested bread.

Hi guys, first off, I did pilates last night for the first time ever and hats off to everyone doing that, it was frekkin hard! Hopefully gets easier over time though :)

For those wondering about the bread tips I sent, I did also send it to our nutritionist and she just responded to me! As you can see, she thinks its good too even though she recommends not having heaps of it!

"Hi Peter

I have had a look at the breads, and yes more nutritional than most on the market.  They do still contain wheat so if you are an A or O blood group then keep this minimal.

The salba seed they contain does help to improve the nutritional protein and essential fatty acid component of the breads – nice!

Thanks

Jen"

Hey Guys!!!

Hey peops

Its Andrew here

I know Becs is gonna be away next week I’m taking the reigns in her steed.

Lets start picking up the pace by reports the points are coming a little slow and we don’t want to get far behind and keep competitive

Lets organize a session when I’m working but get back to me on Andrew@genesisfitness.co.nz or hit the blog and ill check

Lets put the foot on the gas

Salba Grain info

Thought this would be helpful so you can see the nutritional values of bread using the ancient grain "salba" I remember Jenny recommending Ancient grains over regular ones, now I know why!

For those who can't/don't want to cut bread out completely...

I know it is probably not exactly a GREAT idea to promote bread, but I was thinking that for those who still want to moderate their diet but not cut things like that completely I would recommend some product that are actually damn good!

The first one is this rice bran butter replacement

You can use it from anything from cooking to baking and just as a spread and is very nice, it also comes in a "light" version

The bread is the following range from yarrows:http://www.yarrows.co.nz/salba_range.php

Especially the wholegrain range, it has no added sugar at all and the wholegrain is really nice!

You should be able to find it at places like countdown and definitely New World.

Anyway, probably not great to have bread as we all learned before but wanted to share regardless.

See you guys at pilates tonight!

Week 3 Begins...

Hey 12 Week Challenge Team!
Things seem to have gone a bit quiet on the blogging front, I am still checking everyones attendance and have been promised by some that it will improve this week!  We are at week 3 now, motivation levels should still be at an all time high! We have two weeks left to get to minimum 4 classes for the month (ideally 8!) since we were behind in the points for the first week we need to pick up as many extra points as possible with the classes!  Latino Dancing was a blast last week, so all try to get there this week!  I unfortunately have a client at 7pm, but i definitely would be there otherwise!  My rhythm was a bit out last week, but i still had a great laugh!  So check it out.

Just to make you all envious, I am off to Fiji for a week on Friday.  Andrew will be in charge of blogging and keeping your attendance high!  If i can get to a computer in Fiji, i will blog you all to see how things are going...!

When i am back from Fiji, we need to get the team together to meet everyone.  I have tried to introduce you to each other in the gym, but obviously you arent all there at the same time.  So lets try and lock in a time for a catch up.  I would like to get everyone along to Latino Dance and then pop up the road for a drink and catch up afterwards, so could we aim for THursday 1st July Latino class and then drinks at the Villager?  I think we need to have the team atmosphere there to really push us through the full 12 weeks!  And what better way to do that than to actually know everyone in the team!!!  We need to start being accountable for the sessions we do or don't do!  Please let me know who can make that date.

Also when i am back from Fiji, we will look at having some group training sessions.  A few of the other teams have already started this, and it seems to be pretty successful!

I was having a conversation with Warren today and talking about our food vices...Warren has a pretty interesting one...!  Would you like to share that with us Warren? :-)  I have told Warren that if he reaches his goal for his ideal weight, then i will bake him his favourite food!  Anyone else have a food they go weak at the knees for?  Mine is White chocolate!

CHALLENGE: WEEK 3
Challenge for this week is for everyone to get to at least 2 DIFFERENT classes (ones that they havent already been to this month) ...Come along to my Pilates class this Wednesday night at 6pm if you havent already.

Well, i expect big things from you the following week!  cant wait to come back from Fiji to see Minerva at the top of the table!

Also if you have any pictures or videos to upload, than lets get onto it...we can get extra points for blogging too!

Go for Gold!!!

Congratulations on the first week!

I must say people well done and a big round of fist pumps and high fives for all Teams!!

I have been well and truly encouraged by the vigour in which all teams and taking on all matters of competitveness and eager gym attendance

The scores have been posted and it looks like Team Septu will take out first weeks honours with a total of 27 points as the first weeks totals.

The other teams points come in like this

·         Team Athena 24

·         Team Minerva 24

·         Team Zeus 26

·         Team Maru 25

·         Team Ares 26

If it seems like low points never fear my loyal subjects (according to Zeus, in the baddest lightening storm ever indoors!!), because we will be having MAJOR special rounds, the kind that make you go all out to achieve, can make a team in last place leap to the front of the pack and alike.

So keep your eyes firmly fixed on this blog and your training efforts.

P.S all group fitness points will be calculated at the end of each month to avoid confusion and give people the last ditch effort to accumulate points, it can be done

Till then enjoy yourselves and remember its about you and your team

Hi everyone :)

Hi everyone,

Well I thought it was about time I wrote on our blog (and I have to say it took about five minutes to figure it out!!).  It was great to meet some of you at Pilates and Latino Dancing over the last couple of nights and I'm looking forward to having a catch up with everyone maybe one night next week.
I guess my goals and the reasons I have started this challenge are to lose some weight, improve my fitness, and try to get some motivation for going to the gym on a regular basis.  Besides my weekly sessions with Rebecca I haven't been very good at getting to the gym!  But it seems that the team idea has already improved my motivation, I've been at the gym more times in the last two weeks than I have been for a long time (eek!), plus I'm keen to try out some more group fitness classes.  I was thinking of Cadence, Yoga and MC2 but was wondering if anyone has done some of the other classes and what they thought of them?
Also I had to leave the nutrition seminar a little early last week and wondered if someone wrote down the breakfast suggestions?  I'm still on my porridge at the moment but remember that they said that oats aren't a great idea!  I can't stomach the thought of eggs every morning so hoped that someone might have some other suggestions?

Happy gyming everyone!!

Abby :)

Tonight

Hi All,
I was sorry to miss out tonight. I'm sure it was fun. I have come down with a bad cough again. That is the reason for going on the challenge. To get myself fitter and build up immunity.
I went to have  a live blood view at Discovery Health. That was really interesting. I now know what my blood cells look like. Did you know that blood cells can stay alive under the microscope for up to 15 minutes?
Will be at the gym on the weekend. But won't make the 4 visits this week. Sorry! I did go to yoga on Tuesday as my second different class for this month.

Latino Dancing!

OK ...a bit of team building is due!  1st weeks points are up and even though there are only a few points in it, we are last equal...NOT COOL!  So, as we know, there are solid points to be had from getting to DIFFERENT group fitness classes, and with only limited number of class options, we need to jump on any new ones when they come up! soooo...Latino dancing, this Thursday 7pm...dance the calories away while having a bit of a laugh at the same time! Plus we could go up the road for a catch up straight afterwards to try and make a plan of how to tackle this challenge and WIN!!!

So can i expect to see everyone there?

Start of Week 2!

Hey Team!

I hope you had a briliant long weekend and are ready to get back into the challenge today!

How did everyone get on with last weeks water challenge?  Anyone manage to drink 3-4L daily for the week?  Make sure you still keep up a good intake of water.  Remember we need H20 to make energy!

Following on from the nutrition seminar last Thursday, Week 2 Challenge is to focus on getting protein into every meal whether it be your snack or one of your main meals.  Watch your serving sizes...Your stomach is the size of your two fists put together!   Look into purchasing some Protein Powder and experimenting with some smoothies, they can be delicious yet healthy at the same time!  If anyone has any good ideas of protein snacks or smoothies, post them on the blog...we all want to know!

One of the keys to the success of this programme is planning, so make sure you have mapped out your weeks training schedule too!  Blog us all to let us know what days you are coming into the gym and what classes you will be attending so that as a team, we can start being accountable for the sessions we are meant to be doing!  4 sessions per week = 2 points!

Any problems or queries, let me know!

ps. Pilates tomorrow 6pm...would love EVERYONE to be there!

Goals and Nutrition

Well I must admit that was a really good presentation on nutrition last night!

I must admit some of it is slightly staggering and not exactly the easiest things to do, I will admit that the hydration part which prior to the seminar I believe was going to be tough, feels like a cake walk compared to some of the other stuff!

Anyway I thought it would be good to maybe understand what the goals of the others in the team is (for those who feel like sharing).

So thought I would start off with mine. My issue isn't so much weight loss (I was 1.4 kgs over in the BI test) but more about muscle gain (I was about 3.4kg under on muscle) which looking at it from what we learned last night is going to be very tough unless I hydrate properly since you apparently can only gain about 100g of muscle tissue in a week, meaning 1.2kg maximum during the program, even though I am sure hydration will significantly increase the active muscle tissue.

So I will be trying boxing classes, pilates (otherwise I think Rebecca will harass me) and maybe spinning too.

Have a great long weekend!

Pete

Sorry had to slip away...

Sorry had to slip away from the nutrition seminar last night, how did everyone find it! good work those that came...2 points for everyone!  I have your tshirts for you so when you are in next ask Andrew or myself and we can give them to you!

Remember gym is closed on Monday so make sure you plan your training so that you can get your 4 sessions in for the week.

I have passed the fitness testing duties over to Andrew who will be calling you over the next couple of days to organise a time for that.

Have a brilliant long weekend!  Enjoy it, but stay on track with the fitness and eating!

Just a heads up...

Hey Team, just a heads up to remember to swipe in each time you come to the gym or go to a class...every point counts! Also when you go to the group fitness classes, make sure you book with reception as this automatically goes onto the computer system...as well as sign the sheet before the class, can never be too careful!

Hope everyone has or is planning on their gym session today! see you all at Nutrition.

Hi guys, Pete here!

Hi guys, hope to see you at the nutrion thing tonight! I am definitely going to try to kick my own ass in the gym to ensure we do well, I havent really decided on any group fitness stuff since I workout early in the morning but if you have tried something and thought it was good I am happy to take suggestions.

Also if you want feel free to add me to that Facebook thingy if you want, could be a good way to chat, make events or whatever else we might want to do!

Let's kick some ass!

Pete

Some guidelines around the blogging

1 more thing folks

The team blog is a great way to let the team know where you are at with your training, how you are managing your food etc.  It is a forum board to let the world know how you are doing.  Sometimes there can be no greater motivation to avoiding that takeaway hit than knowing you will have to confess to your team on your weekly blog..  Talk with your team members and find out how you want to use it and how you can make it best work for you.

One of the great features of the blog is the ability to post comments against a post.  This means that someone can post an idea, and then everyone can make comments against that post.  To do this, simply click the comments link under a post on the blog site.

We will also use the blogs to post information about the challenge, so check it regularly.

Finally some tips on posting... make sure you remove any auto signatures on your email before posting otherwise these will be posted as well and make the blog look a little scrappy.  Because of the way that we have the posting working, you will not be able to email pictures or videos directly. These will need to be uploaded to youtube or picassa (or other online media hosts) and then we can link them in..  any questions just flick us an email at bloghelp@genesisfitness.co.nz and we will get back to you.

Hope this helps
